Earlier this year, Sonya Deville, real name Daraia Bernato, was arrested because she had a firearm in her vehicle. The arrest was in New Jersey, but she didn’t have a permit for it in the state as she has a permit in Florida.
The charge
As a result of the charge, she faced one count of unlawful weapon possession – handgun without permit. However, Deville resolved the charge.
According to Courrier Post, Deville did so by completing six months in a pretrial intervention program in late November. Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury Jr. in Mays Landing approved her entry into the program in May.
Past incident
In 2020, Deville was a home invasion victim as Phillip A. Thomas II was charged with aggravated stalking, armed burglary of a dwelling, attempted armed kidnapping, and criminal mischief for breaking into her home. He pled guilty to the charges and was given 15 years in prison.
In August, Deville suffered a torn ACL and is expected to be out of action for 9-12 months.
