Although there have been several departures from GFW Impact Wrestling in recent weeks (click here to see who is the latest name to leave the company), they are still making moves as they continue to work on ways to gain some traction under new management. John Hennigan (aka John Morrison, aka Johnny Mundo) is expected to be on this week’s GFW Impact Wrestling tapings. He and fiancee Taya Valkyrie were at last weekend’s live events in New York but this week would be his official GFW TV debut. I am not sure if Valkyrie will be there but I would not be surprised if she has also signed with them.
The word about Hennigan’s GFW status began to spread on social media a few days ago after it was announced that he would be pulled from the Stocktoncon convention due to a contractual agreement with GFW. Hennigan’s ex-girlfriend Melina Perez has been announced as his replacement. She will be there on Saturday 8/19 and Sunday 8/20.
This deal is interesting because he is still contracted to Lucha Underground. There has been concern about the future of that company and the fact that they don’t seem to have a problem with Hennigan signing with GFW will only fuel the rumors. Pentagon Dark is technically the Lucha Underground Champion but that title changes (Mundo lost to Prince Puma and Puma lost to Pentagon Dark) have yet to air on TV so Hennigan (as Johnny Mundo) is recognized as the champion on the television show.
Hennigan will likely debut on the “live” (it will be on a delay by approximately an hour or so) episode of Impact this Thursday night. That show is being dubbed as “Destination X” and will air at 8 pm eastern on Pop TV and they will be taping shows from August 17-August 22.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Alberto El Patron. As of this writing, he is still suspended. Yesterday, we wrote about how there is fear that there will be more issues with him and his lawyers contacted GFW to ask why he is still suspended. If they decide to part ways with him, then they would have to strip him of the GFW Championship at the upcoming tapings.
