WWE reportedly has plans to hold another tournament this year (updated)

The last WWE tour of Chile was a success for the company and it looks like there are more plans in store for the Latin market.

As first reported by Planeta Wrestling, there are plans to run a tournament featuring latin stars and William Regal will be involved with the production. He is regularly on the road scouting for talent so that is probably what he will be doing here. The plans are to run the tapings in Chile by the end of August and will feature talent from Chile, Peru, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and other countries. I find it interesting that August is the plan because that would be the time when they would run the Mae Young Classic. Perhaps, there are no plans for the MYC this year.

There is no word what the plans are for the winner (ie. an NXT contract or plans for a South American Championship) but this tournament will likely get a ton of hype on WWE TV because this is another attempt to look for a Latin Superstar because a larger percentage of their fanbase in the United States is Latin-American. That is something that Vince McMahon has wanted for years and that was the plan for Alberto Del Rio before thing fell apart.

It should be noted that Andrade “Cien” Almas is getting a mega push in NXT and there’s strong talk of Rey Mysterio coming back soon. Mysterio said during an interview with The Mirror on Monday that there is a strong chance that he will be back soon.

WWE’s worldwide expansion is not just limited to Latin countries. There are still plans for a UK-exclusive TV show. The idea for the UK show is to get a TV deal instead of airing the show on the WWE Network. There are also plans to eventually expand to other countries such as China.
