On Monday, there was a story going around online about Apollo Crews losing his last name. The story claimed that WWE decided to drop his last name because it would cause confusion with Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz. The story also claimed that they got their information from WWE. Well, here’s the thing…we held off on posting anything until we got confirmation. We were told that WWE never sent such an email.
A source in WWE said that his last name was dropped because it’s just what Vince McMahon does as he has done many times over the years with other wrestlers. So, unless we hear otherwise, there is nothing to this story.
Meanwhile, actor Terry Crews joked about Apollo losing his last name.
I like and respect Apollo and wish him well— but The @WWE stole my name in the first place. https://t.co/PLqsPBhs0o

Before Apollo, Elias lost his last name (Elias Samson) shortly after he moved up to the main roster.
