WrestleMania is a huge show and it’s very long. But there are actually more matches booked than can fit on the main show. After all, the kickoff show for Mania is usually two hours long so they have a couple matches in that time.
The kickoff show is available for free through all forms of social media so it’s great exposure to bring in last-minute WWE Network buys and until it’s proven not to work it looks like that’s what they’re going to keep doing.
Last year’s WrestleMania kickoff show saw Neville face Austin Aries in a match where they saw no DVD royalties and didn’t get on the main card. That match could have also been one of the reasons why neither of them around anymore. But it looks like if this year’s Cruiserweight match ends up on YouTube for free instead of during the actual show at least one person will be okay with it.
Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali fought hard in this tournament so it would be great if they got time to shine on the main show. But I can understand why WWE would want to put a Cruiserweight match on the kickoff show because they’re fun, talented, fast-paced, and a good representation of the product to a wider consumer base. This is one of the reasons why The Usos have been on more pay-per-view kickoff shows than you can shake a stick at.
Cedric still plans on stealing the show at the Granddaddy Of Them All no matter where they are placed on the big event. This is a great attitude and an excellent way to prepare for one of the biggest matches of his career.
