AEW Is Attempting Damage Control in Response to CM Punk’s ESPN Interview

An ESPN interview with CM Punk is expected to be released today ahead of his return on Saturday’s Collision. Although the interview has yet to be released to the public, some quotes from it made the rounds to those in AEW.

As previously reported, Punk answered questions in a way that blurred the lines of whether he was shooting or angling for a storyline as Punk was aware that what he said could come across as polarizing.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that AEW was hoping Punk’s comments about Hangman Page wouldn’t be part of the article as the promotion tries to sign him to a new deal.

Meltzer wrote, “AEW was hoping that the comments Punk made about Adam Page would not be part of the article/video but the talent is largely aware of them. This is largely because the company is actively trying to sign Page to a new long-term deal. There was an attempt at damage control going on at press time but much of the talent was aware of what Punk originally said.”

It was reported last year that Punk and Page didn’t see eye to eye on some promo material leading into their match at Double Or Nothing. Punk’s comments about Page were a shoot as he stated Page not coming out to the ring was cowardly instead of doing “cowboy sh**.”
