Brie Bella has confirmed that she broke her scapula at SummerSlam and will be out of action.
Bella was hurt during the six-woman tag on night one, where she teamed with her sister Nikki and Paige against Fatal Influence at U.S. Bank Stadium on August 1. She held her right shoulder for the rest of the match and through the post-match angle in which the Bella Twins turned on Paige. The exact moment the injury happened has not been established.
Triple H confirmed at the post-show press conference on Saturday night that she had been treated at the venue and taken to hospital for scans, that the injury seemed pretty bad, and that WWE did not yet have a diagnosis. She was pulled from her autograph and photograph sessions in Minneapolis the following day.
Nikki Bella said on Busted Open Radio that her sister was in a lot of pain, that they were still waiting to learn what was going on, and that she had been told to say nothing further until Brie spoke for herself.
Bella did that on Instagram.
“I wanted to thank you all for sending me all the love, warm wishes and prayers. When I was sitting in the hospital, I was reading everything you guys were sending my way, love you all!!! Unfortunately I’ll be out for a bit. I broke my scapula. If there’s one thing I know about my sister and I is that we don’t let broken bones stop us. Not sure how I finished that match, but I do believe between the adrenaline, passion for the business and the love for all the women I work with, it gave me the drive to finish.”
“Now my new journey starts!! Buddy said he’s going to be my assistant, Birdie’s going to be my nurse and they both told me that daddy is going to be my personal chef, so I am set!! if there is one thing I know about Brie Mode, she always finds a way to come back to her wrestling home. Let the recovery begin.”
She did not put a timeframe on the recovery, and WWE has not announced one.
The timing is hard on both sisters. Nikki had only just returned herself, having been out with an ankle injury since March 27, and Saturday was her first match back. Brie came back full time at the Royal Rumble in January, and in April she and Paige won the Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 42, the first tag titles of her WWE career. They held them until Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 18, when Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid took them.
Triple H said on Saturday that WWE was ready to adjust its plans if needed.
