AAA To Reveal New General Manager On May 23 In Mexico City, JBL Campaigns For The Role

WWE-owned Lucha Libre AAA is set to make a shake-up to its on-screen authority structure, with a new General Manager set to be revealed next month.

The storyline began on the April 18 edition of AAA on FOX, when Dorian Roldan approached his mother, Marisela Peña Roldan, to make a personal pitch for the General Manager position himself. Rather than give him an immediate answer, Peña Roldan told her son she needed time to consider the company’s direction.

That decision officially became a search on the April 25 broadcast, when Peña Roldan addressed the AAA audience and confirmed that a hunt for the new General Manager is now underway.

“It has been exactly a year since we made history at WrestleMania, and now it’s the time to make history again,” Peña Roldan said, as transcribed by WrestleTalk. “After a few weeks of careful reflection, I’m proud to announce that AAA will have a new General Manager. For the next few weeks, I will be looking for the best candidate to assume this super important and powerful role, and take lucha libre to heights never seen before.”

The reveal will take place live on Saturday, May 23, 2026, when AAA tapes from Mexico City. Peña Roldan said the new authority figure will signal a shift in direction for the company.

“Thank you for all your incredible support, and prepare yourselves, because with the new General Manager in AAA, nothing will be the same,” she added.

The announcement leaves AAA as the only WWE-affiliated brand currently without an on-screen GM. Adam Pearce continues in the role on Monday Night Raw, Nick Aldis runs SmackDown, Robert Stone oversees NXT, and Timothy Thatcher is the General Manager of Evolve.

Behind the scenes, The Undertaker and Jeremy Borash have been the primary creative voices for AAA in recent months, though neither has been featured in an on-screen capacity.

As for who could ultimately be named, the only candidate teased so far on television is Dorian Roldan himself, who has been lobbying for the role in the hope of putting El Ojo — El Hijo Del Vikingo and Omos — in a more prominent spot.

WWE and AAA Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio has been floated as a logical candidate, though Mysterio has been working on commentary alongside Corey Graves and JBL recently, which would have to be addressed if he were tapped for the role.

Another name that has been mentioned in speculation is Chavo Guerrero, who was reportedly back in the WWE/AAA fold not long ago but has not appeared on screen, leading some to wonder if the General Manager role could be the reason for his return.

JBL has also been openly campaigning for the job. The WWE Hall of Famer, who serves as a color commentator on AAA on FOX alongside Mysterio and Graves, took to X to declare himself the rightful choice.

“The whole country of Mexico loves me and needs me. I know this will be me, and I plan on accepting. You are welcome. Viva la Bradshaw,” JBL wrote.

JBL has been a regular fixture in AAA since 2024, originally appearing as a member of El Ojo before transitioning to the broadcast booth following WWE’s acquisition of the promotion.

The new GM will be unveiled on the May 23 episode of AAA on FOX from Mexico City.
