AEW Star Dealing With A Legit Injury

There’s concerning news out of AEW, as Mark Briscoe is dealing with a legitimate injury.

Briscoe received an AEW World Championship opportunity on this past Wednesday’s Dynamite but came up short against MJF. When Collision aired the following night, the broadcast indicated that Briscoe had been hurt and could be sidelined for a while.

Bryan Alvarez has since confirmed that the injury is legitimate, though he did not yet have details on the nature of the issue or how long Briscoe might be out. “Not sure what the injury is, but Mark Briscoe injury is legit,” Alvarez wrote. “All the best to him.”

The situation was addressed on Thursday’s Collision, where Briscoe’s Conglomeration stablemates, Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong, cut a backstage promo reflecting on a mixed stretch for the group. The faction had triumphed in the Death’s Door steel cage match at Forbidden Door, only to see Briscoe go down days later. “That steel cage match was crazy. We got the job done, and Mark did get his championship title shot at Dynamite, but it didn’t really work out,” Cassidy said.

O’Reilly confirmed the uncertainty surrounding Briscoe’s status. “Because of his injuries, we don’t know when we’re going to see Mark again,” he said. The group also noted that Tomohiro Ishii’s return remains up in the air, though Willow Nightingale is expected back soon.

The AEW World Champion is set to defend the title against Kenny Omega at the Beach Break edition of Dynamite next Wednesday, July 8. Per the stipulation, if Omega comes up short, he will no longer be able to challenge for the championship.
