Another major name is headed to AEW

AEW is not done with major signings.

It was reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW has made another “major acquisition” on the heel of the deals for CM Punk and Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson).

It was not said who this person is but it’s possible that this is a reference to Ric Flair. Bray Wyatt is likely under a non-compete so he wouldn’t be legally able to sign with AEW right now and while anything is possible, it seems more likely that Brock Lesnar would go back to WWE. Adam Cole is also a possibility since he is currently under a handshake deal and could legally speak with AEW right now if he wanted to. Cole agreed to stay on for another month after his WWE deal expired last month.

Flair would make the most sense since he does not have a non-compete. Meltzer noted that Flair secretly agreed to manage Andrade El Idolo at Triplemania XXIX. He made that trip alongside his daughter Charlotte Flair, who asked for time off a while back so she could skip the live event that was taking place at the same time as Triplemania.

Meltzer noted that although people have hinted to him that Flair doesn’t have a non-compete, it has not been confirmed to him. For what it’s worth, Flair is scheduled to appear at NWA ‘s 73rd anniversary show so that is another sign that he is free to sign with any promotion.
