Matt Jackson says he and his brother had a direct hand in putting together the match The Young Bucks won at AEW Redemption.
Speaking before the show in a video posted to the Being The Elite YouTube channel, and as F4W noted, Jackson said the pairing with Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay was something he and Nick pushed for.
“We have a big match tonight against Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley. A lot of stuff on the line heading into All In. And I don’t like to, you know, give away too many secrets nowadays, but Nick and I were very hands-on and influential with this match happening. So there’s a lot of ownership here at stake personally for me. I really want this to succeed, not that I don’t always want everything to succeed, but even more so today. So, big night tonight. I’m excited. And I just hope that we hit a home run.”
Matt and Nick Jackson have held executive vice president roles at AEW since the company was founded.
The Bucks beat Moxley and Ospreay on Sunday’s pay-per-view from the Bell Centre in Montreal. Later in the night, Kenny Omega retained the AEW Men’s World Championship against Kevin Knight in the main event, and the show closed with Ospreay separating from Moxley and the Death Riders before Omega laid him out with a One Winged Angel. Omega defends against Ospreay at All In on August 30 at Wembley Stadium.
Adam Copeland and Christian Cage retained the AEW World Tag Team Championship against Claudio Castagnoli and PAC at Redemption, after which their defence against The Young Bucks at All In was made official.
Jackson said it is a match the two of them have wanted for a long time, and one that closes a loop.
“Just surreal that that’s finally going to happen. Now it’ll be official that we’ve wrestled every team from the TLC era. Always a dream match of ours to wrestle those guys.”
The Bucks have already faced The Hardys and The Dudleys. Copeland and Cage, who worked as Edge and Christian during that period, are the third team from that era.
