Matt Cardona Wants To Be Paired With Chelsea Green In WWE: ‘She Is An Absolute Star’

Matt Cardona has a pitch ready whenever WWE wants it, and it involves his wife.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Cardona was asked whether he and Chelsea Green could work as an on-screen pair in WWE. He has thought about it.

“I mean, I would love that. Some of my greatest times in my career were when we were on the Indies together. It was just the best. Traveling together, and it just made the matches so much easier, especially with me being a heel. I have this valet, and also she could wrestle, so we could do mixed tag team matches, and then she can get involved physically. It was the perfect formula.”

Asked whether they could improve each other’s matches, he said that is exactly what happened before.

“100%, and that’s what we did on the Indies.”

“That’s something that is in my back pocket. Once WWE wants to do it, let’s go.”

On why she works

Cardona was effusive about where Green is at right now, and specific about what he thinks the skill actually is.

“She is just dominating. Someone who absolutely maximizes their minutes. Whether it be a two segment match or 20 seconds backstage, she is an absolute star, and the whole world is seeing it.”

“She’s a pro. She’s a pro, pro.”

He put the connection down to something that cannot be written.

“Because she’s authentic and she doesn’t try to BS anybody, and the fans can see that, and she has a connection with the audience. Some people have it naturally. Some people have to figure out a way to get it, but she has it. Once you have a connection with the audience, you’re set.”

Green has moved from heel to babyface largely on the strength of the reaction she was getting while playing the villain.

Asked at the end of the interview what he is grateful for, Cardona started with his wife and reached for the same comparison he has used before.

“She’s my best friend, and we just have the best time together. But also, when I peel back the curtain, I think about it. I used to have posters of divas on my bedroom wall. Now I’m married to one.”

The two were together on the independent scene during Cardona’s five and a half years away from WWE, before Green returned to the company. Cardona said her signing came during a stretch when several people around him were getting calls and he was not.

“It was like a bunch of people at that time who were getting called back, and I was like, I’m doing the most out here. But I was so happy for her, and now look what she’s done. And I knew that was always going to happen.”
