1998: The Hardy Boyz sign with WWE

The Hardy Boyz were officially signed by WWE in 1998 and appeared on several PPV dark matches.

1999: Feud with The Brood, alliance with Michael Hayes, New Brood with Gangrel

They continued to appear in dark matches on the PPVs for the first half of the year. The Hardy Boyz began appearing on RAW with Michael Hayes as their manager. They entered into a feud with The Brood (Edge & Christian). They defeated The Brood at King of the Ring to become the number one contenders for the WWF Tag Team titles. They defeated The Acolytes on the July 5th episode of RAW to win the titles. The Acolytes regained the titles in their rematch against The Hardy Boyz and Michael Hayes in a 2-on-3 match when Hayes was pinned. Shortly thereafter, The Hardy Boyz turned on Hayes and aligned themselves with Gangrel to form The New Brood. The Hardyz began a best of 5 series of matches against Edge & Christian in the Terri Invitational Tournament in which the winner would get the services of Terri to be their manager. The Hardyz won the fifth and deciding match at No Mercy in a Ladder match and Teri became their manager.

2000: Feuds with Dudley Boyz, Edge & Christian, TLC match

At the Royal Rumble, The Hardy Boyz defeated The Dudley Boyz in the first ever tag team tables match. Edge & Christian, The Dudley Boyz & The Hardy Boyz began a three way feud that has become legendary, including two matches that are still talked about to this day. At WrestleMania 2000 as Edge & Christian beat The Dudley Boyz & The Hardy Boyz in a triangle ladder match to win the WWF Tag Team Championship. The Hardy Boyz were then aligned with Lita and became known as Team Xtreme. At SummerSlam, in another classic, Edge & Christian retained the titles over The Hardys and The Dudleys in a TLC match. The Hardys regained the titles from Edge & Christian in a Steel Cage match at Unforgiven. The Hardys lost the titles the following month at No Mercy to Los Conquistadores with the assumption it was Edge & Christian under the masks.

2001: WrestleMania X-Seven TLC match, feud with Jeff Hardy

At WrestleMania X-Seven, Edge & Christian successfully defended the WWF Tag Team Championship in a TLC match over The Dudley Boyz and The Hardy Boyz. The Hardys continued to team, but were unsuccessful in regaining tag team titles at Unforgiven when The Dudleys retained their titles over them, Big Show & Spike Dudley and The Hurricane & Lance Storm in a Four Way Elimination match. On September 25th, The Hardys won the WCW Tag Team Titles from Booker T and Test and successfully defended the titles at No Mercy against The Hurricane & Lance Storm. Two days later, they lost them to The Dudleys. A week later, the Hardys won the WWE Tag Team titles from Test & Booker T. They would then lose the tag titles in a WWF/WCW Tag Team title unification match at Survivor Series. To close out the year, Matt & Jeff started to feud with each other. Lita said Matt was wrong and sided with Jeff. At Vengeance, Matt beat Jeff with Lita as the special guest referee.

2002: Matt Hardy singles run, birth of "Matt Hardy: Version 1"

Matt Hardy got drafted to SmackDown in August and began calling himself, “Matt Hardy: Version 1”

2003: Cruiserweight Championship run

Matt Hardy won the Cruiserweight Championship from Billy Kidman at No Way Out and successfully defended it against Rey Mysterio at WrestleManiaXIX. Hardy eventually lost the title to Mysterio June 5th on SmackDown. Matt returned to RAW in November

2004: Matt Hardy reunites with Lita, injury setback

Matt reunited with Lita by saving her in an attack from Kane which started a several month long program. Matt defeated Kane at Vengeance, however, he then lost a “Till Death Do I Do” match at SummerSlam. As a result of this, Lita was forced to marry Kane. Matt suffered a major knee injury and would be out over a year.

2005: Matt Hardy fired, returns to feud with Edge over Lita

Matt Hardy had been dating for several years when it was discovered that Lita had recently been having a real life affair with Edge. Matt took to social media over the incident and WWE released Matt for doing so. Fans began chanting for Matt at arenas while he was gone. The WWE decided to use this in the storyline as Edge and Lita were paired together on screen. Their on screen wedding (in storyline) was scheduled in June on RAW. During the ceremony, Matt returned to attack Edge. On August 1st, Vince McMahon announced that Matt Hardy is officially signed by WWE and he would be facing Edge at SummerSlam. Edge defeated Matt at SummerSlam because Matt was bleeding profusely. They were rematched at Unforgiven where Matt beat Edge inside a Steel Cage. Edge would win this war by defeating Matt in October on RAW in a loser leaves RAW match. Matt then went back to SmackDown.

2007: Hardy Boyz win Tag Titles, Matt teams with MVP

Matt & Jeff Hardy won the World Tag Team Championship in a 10-team Battle Royal at WrestleMania 23. They would lose them to Cade & Murdoch June 4th on RAW. In July, Matt started feuding with the United States Champion, MVP. In a turn of events, MVP chose Matt to be his tag team partner to go against Deuce & Domino for the WWE Tag Team Championship on SmackDown on August 31st. Matt & MVP won the match and the titles. Matt & MVP continued to argue amongst each other the next two months despite being a team. They dropped the titles to The Miz & John Morrison November 16th on SmackDown. MVP then attached Matt.

2008: Matt Hardy wins United States Title, drafted to ECW, wins ECW Title

Matt Hardy & MVP renewed their rivalry and Matt finally won the US title from MVP at Backlash. Matt got drafted to ECW in June and dropped the U.S. title to Shelton Benjamin at The Great American Bash. At Unforgiven, Matt won the ECW Title in a Championship Scramble match, which included the former champion Mark Henry, The Miz, Finlay, and Chavo Guerrero.

2009: Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy feud, drafted to Raw

Matt Hardy lost the ECW Title to Jack Swagger at The Royal Rumble. Matt would go on to turn on his brother Jeff which enabled Edge to win the WWE Title from Jeff. Matt requested and was permitted to officially go to SmackDown. Matt defeated Jeff at WrestleMania 25. Matt then got drafted to RAW in April. In June, Matt suffered an injury to his intestines and needed surgery. He returned in August to be the special guest referee for the World Heavyweight Championship between the champion, Jeff against CM Punk. Matt helped Jeff in this match and Jeff retained the title, and The Hardy’s made up.

2010: Matt Hardy released by WWE

In September, WWE released Matt Hardy. Around this time, there was speculation that Matt was dealing with personal issues.

2011: Matt Hardy signs with TNA

Matt Hardy debuted for TNA as part of the Immortal group which also included Jeff Hardy, who was the TNA Champion at this time. In June, TNA suspended Matt. They released him in August because of a DUI. Matt would go on to wrestle for independents and ROH until returning to TNA in 2014.

2014: Matt and Jeff Hardy with TNA World Tag Team Titles

Matt Hardy returned in July, and along with his brother Jeff, defeated The Wolves for the TNA Tag Team Championship in August. They would then lose to the Wolves in a best of 3 match.

2015: Matt Hardy wins TNA World Championship

The Hardys once again won the tag team titles in a tournament. They had to vacate the titles due to an injury to Jeff. Matt would go on to win the TNA Title at Bound for Glory beating Drew Galloway, however EC3 filed an injunction which forced TNA to strip him of the championship.

2016: Matt Hardy turns heel, Broken Matt debuts

Matt Hardy defeated EC3 to become TNA champion. The match resulted in a double turn, with Matt now being a heel. He lost the title to Drew Galloway in March. Matt disappeared for a month, and when he returned, he attacked Jeff Hardy and was now “Broken”. Matt defeated Jeff in a Final Deletion match in which Jeff now how to be known as Brother Nero. At Bound for Glory, The Hardys won the TNA Tag Team Titles from Decay

2017: Matt and Jeff Hardy leave TNA, wrestle The Young Bucks in ROH

The Hardys could not come to a contract agreement with TNA. They left the company and vacated the tag team titles. On March 4th, The Hardys defeated The Young Bucks to win the ROH Tag Team Titles. They lost them back to them on April 1st

2017: Matt and Jeff Hardy return to WWE at WrestleMania 33

The Hardys made their surprise return at WrestleMania 33 and they received a thunderous ovation from the crowd. They were inserted into the Ladder match and won the RAW Tag Team Championship which involved the champions, Luke Gallow & Karl Anderson, Cesaro & Sheamus, and Enzo Amore & Big Cass. They lost the titles to Cesaro & Sheamus at Extreme Rules in a Steel Cage match.

2018: Matt Hardy feud/team with Bray Wyatt

Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt began feuding with each other. After Matt beat Wyatt on several occasions. At WrestleMania, Wyatt returned and sided with Matt. They won a tournament to become World Tag Team Champions at the Greatest Rumble ever. They lost them to Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel at Extreme Rules. Matt then took the rest of the year off to heal his injuries.

2019: Matt and Jeff Hardy win SmackDown Tag Team Titles

Matt Hardy returned in February. In April, Matt & Jeff defeated The Usos to win the SmackDown tag team titles. They had to vacate them three weeks later due to Jeff suffering a knee injury.

2020: Matt Hardy leaves WWE

In February, WWE did not renew Matt Hardy’s contract.

2020: Matt Hardy signs with AEW, Broken Matt returns

In March, Matt made his AEW debut with his Broken Matt character. He decided to end it early as he felt it did not work in front of no crowds during the Pandemic era. In September, Matt became the manager of Private Party.

2021: Matt Hardy turns heel, forms HFO

Matt Hardy turned heel and became known as Big Money Matt as the head of the Hardy Family Office (HFO). The Butcher and The Blade joined the HFO.

2022: HFO turns on Matt Hardy

In March, Matt Hardy got attacked by the HFO which now included Andrade. Jeff Hardy made his AEW debut by running down the aisle to save Matt.
