Matt Hardy’s first thought when Grayson Waller took a shot at TNA on WWE television was that something might be in the works.
Waller mocked TNA on NXT last week while dismissing Cruz Montana’s run there, on the night Montana appeared under his new name. Asked about it on the latest episode of The Extreme Life, Hardy said he had looked into it.
“I saw part of it, Hardy stated before adding, ‘It’s interesting because my initial thought, in which I’ve done a little digging into this, and I’m not sure what the deal is. My initial thought was like, oh, are they setting up to do something again, like work together? Did they have him just throw that out because they’re going to do some TNA business, whatever?”
He does not know either way, and he settled on a simpler explanation.
“I’m not sure if they are or not, but I think more than anything else, he was just trying to create buzz and get people to talk about it, much like we’re talking about it right here, so it worked for him in that capacity.”
Either way, Hardy is not complaining.
“When it’s all said and done, anytime TNA is mentioned on that show, it’s never a bad thing for us.”
He also picked up on where the promo was delivered and who else was in it.
“I thought it was pretty interesting how he was at NXT doing it, which people still look at as the developmental, even though they really tried to establish it as its own brand. And he was calling Austin Theory, who was on the main roster, as he called him the jobber.”
On Theory, Hardy made the case that visibility counts for a lot.
“The one thing I can say for him is that he stays in the mix. Just being in the mix there, that’s half the battle. If you can get on TV and you can be booked and you can be in the mix, that’s very vital and important to giving yourself the opportunity to get over and reconnect or change characters or get people to emotionally invest in you.”
TNA and WWE have worked together since 2024, with talent appearing on each other’s programming.
