WWE is in an interesting situation with Roman Reigns as he holds both the WWE Championship and Universal Title as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion but works a reduced schedule.
As WrestlingNews.co previously reported, there are still no plans for him to lose the title this year. The plan when he won the Universal Title in 2020 was for him to be the champion when he eventually wrestled The Rock.
One source familiar with the creative process told WrestlingNews.co that Triple H is moving forward with the original plans, and the idea is still for Reigns to talk into WrestleMania 39 as champion.
WWE wants to book Reigns vs. The Rock at WrestleMania, but it comes down to whether The Rock can do the match due to his busy schedule between his Hollywood commitments and the relaunch of the XFL.
WrestleVotes reported today that the situation involving Reigns being the top champion is said to be complex:
“The situation w/ the world titles & Roman Reigns is “complex” according to a source. They would like to go into “Mania season” & WrestleMania itself with 2 champions, but they also don’t want Reigns losing AT ALL prior. I’m told HHH & co are open to all things creatively here.”
Reigns retained the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship over Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle. Reigns is not scheduled to work Extreme Rules on October 8th.
