There has been a lot of talk about James Andrew Miller, who also worked for The Washington Post and was Executive VP of Original Programming for USA Network, telling Jimmy Traina on SI Media that he had heard of interest in WWE programming from some people in Warner Bros. Discovery.
Miller also stated he wouldn’t be surprised whether WBD wanted a slice of the WWE pie once WWE starts its talks with networks regarding their media rights if WBD doesn’t retain the NBA media rights.
Miller also speculated the possibility of WBD moving Monday Night Raw to another night to avoid competition with the NFL’s Monday Night Football.
Pwinsider Elite reports there were a lot of people within the WWE circle “whose ears immediately perked up” after Miller’s comments made the rounds on social media as they questioned whether this is a real possibility or if it was just speculation.
They had several top WWE executives ask them whether they had heard anything from the WBD side regarding their interest in WWE. Pwinsider hasn’t heard anything, but that doesn’t mean there’s not, and it hasn’t been talked about behind closed doors.
It’s believed AEW has a deal with WBD through the end of this year, although there has been speculation the deal will go through late 2024.
Following the acquisition of WWE by the Endeavor Group to form them into a new company with the UFC, it has “supercharged interest in WWE in Hollywood circles as well as overall interest in” potential pro wrestling elsewhere.
It’s believed NBC Universal has an exclusive window to negotiate a new deal with WWE, and if a deal isn’t reached, then WWE can talk with anyone for the media rights to Raw. Peacock has the rights to the WWE Network and PPV events through 2026.
