AJ Styles has defended Brian “Road Dogg” James after PWInsider.com reported that he has been named the new Co-Lead Writer for WWE Friday Night SmackDown.
Road Dogg previously worked as SmackDown’s head writer under Vince McMahon, who was known for making frequent, last-minute changes to WWE programming, sometimes minutes before airtime or even during shows. Road Dogg held this position during Styles’ nearly year-long reign as WWE Champion.
In a tweet, Styles defended Road Dogg, noting that his ideas were often altered—sometimes drastically—under McMahon’s leadership, though he didn’t name the former WWE CEO/Chairman directly.
Triple H currently oversees WWE Creative, a role he has held since the summer of 2022. McMahon is no longer with the company. This follows a lawsuit filed in January 2024 by former WWE employee Janel Grant against McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis, alleging sex trafficking and sexual abuse by McMahon.
Before judging this guy from his past performance as the head writer. Just know that there was a man who picked it apart to the point that it was no longer his ideas anymore. 🤔 https://t.co/WnDXRjyuEI
