It is believed that Vince McMahon’s influence on WWE creative will likely grow as the Endeavor Group’s acquisition of WWE gets closer. That merger with the UFC is expected to close later this year, with major changes happening, potentially to Raw and NXT.
McMahon has been making more changes to the product since WrestleMania 39, although he’s done so mostly remotely.
Heading into Monday’s Raw, it was known that McMahon had his fingerprints on the show. A week ago, he made notable changes to last Monday’s Raw and last Friday’s SmackDown.
In addition to the reports, another sign of McMahon’s influence on the product is Tommaso Ciampa dying his beard due to McMahon not liking people to have gray hair on television.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported some additional insight into the mindset of McMahon regarding making changes. McMahon thinks he knows the business and doing what he thinks is the best.
One source was quoted as noting, “He believes in what he says. Is he wrong all the time? No. Actually he’s not. He’s actually got better input than most would believe. Is it all good? No, he’s stuck on certain mindsets that are long gone, and it could be damaging. It’s not the interference itself that is the problem. It’s how and when he does it.”
The person stated that if he put all of this input on the night before or the morning of the show, it would be different, but he’s making changes hours before the show goes live, leading to chaos.
