Brie Bella and Paige opened WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event at Madison Square Garden and walked out without the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. Brie says the loss stung more than she expected.
Speaking on the Nikki and Brie Show, she did not hide her disappointment.
“One, devastating. I wasn’t ready for Paige and I to lose the titles. We’ve been just enjoying this tag team run so much,” Brie said. “To be at Madison Square Garden, you don’t want to come out a loser, you want to come out a winner.”
She had no complaints about the spot on the card, though the day leading into it was hectic. Brie was at Fanatics Fest earlier, recorded an episode of Stephanie McMahon’s podcast, and then had to be ready to go on first.
“That show was really special because they were doing a lot of interaction with the celebrities and pro athletes, and with Fanatics Fest in town, it was wild backstage. It gave me a little anxiety,” Brie said. “Paige and I kind of tried to stay hidden in a spot because it can get overwhelming.”
The timing added to it.
“When you’re opening up the show, you need to make sure to be ready, be at Gorilla before it started, and so you get those nerves,” Brie said. “Those nerves are pretty wild.”
As for how the match ended, Brie had a pointed word for the new champions, Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid of Fatal Influence.
“Fatal Influence, cheaters. We all saw that, and they’re gonna not be happy what karma brings to them,” Brie said.
Nikki’s response was blunt. “Karma’s a b*tch,” she said.
Brie also noted how physical the women’s matches were across the night, with Henley bleeding from the mouth and Lyra Valkyria from the nose in her match with Bayley.
“Saturday Night’s Main Event was the blood fest for the women,” Brie said, before claiming responsibility for one of them. “I will take credit. I popped Fallon in the mouth.”
She acknowledged that comes with consequences.
“Fallon probably is like, Brie, be careful what you wish for, because you’re going to get a receipt,” Brie said. “It was an aggressive match, and we gave it our all, but we just couldn’t pull it off.”
