Drew McIntyre On CM Punk: ‘I Can’t Stand Him,’ But Together It’s ‘Magic For The Audience’

Drew McIntyre says he can’t stand CM Punk and avoids him whenever he can, but that the two of them together are “magic for the audience.”

McIntyre was asked about Punk on Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk while promoting Agent of Shadows, the ReelShort microdrama he stars in.

“He’s a piece of crap. I avoid him whenever I can avoid him,” McIntyre said. “I can tell everybody, he’s a genuine piece of crap. I can’t stand him. I got writers telling me, ‘You’re working with that guy’ and I’m like, ‘Alright, I can’t stand him but I know he’s very good at his job.’ I can’t stand him. You put us together, it’s magic for the audience but also, we have to be professional and not pound each other because if we pound each other’s heads, I would murder him. Did you see him in UFC? It would look like that if it got real in there.”

Punk lost his UFC debut to Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September 2016. He lost to Mike Jackson at UFC 225 in June 2018, a result that was later changed to a no contest after Jackson tested positive for marijuana.

McIntyre and Punk feuded for most of 2024. McIntyre won at SummerSlam, Punk won a strap match at Bash in Berlin, and Punk won the Hell in a Cell rubber match at Bad Blood in October. Punk said this summer that it is the rivalry he expects to be remembered for, pointing to “the hatred that I had for Drew McIntyre and in turn the hatred he had for me.”

McIntyre has not wrestled since losing to Jacob Fatu in an Unsanctioned Match on Night 1 of WrestleMania 42 on April 18. He posted video of himself back in the ring in September, and Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter this month that he is expected back on WWE programming soon.

Agent of Shadows premieres on ReelShort on October 23. McIntyre plays a secret agent protecting a young girl from a billionaire arms dealer. Jacob Fatu, Joe Hendry, Nikkita Lyons, Booker T and Michael Hayes also appear. It is the first series from WWE’s partnership with ReelShort, announced in July.
