Former WWE star Enzo Amore has addressed the possibility of one day reuniting with his longtime tag team partner Big Cass, while reflecting on the friendship that carried him through the early days of his career.
Speaking with Emilio Sparks, Amore was asked about teaming with Cass again in 4th Rope Wrestling, the independent promotion where he currently competes. He made clear the decision is out of his hands. “Not the booker,” Amore said.
He went on to credit Cass with helping him survive his earliest days in the business, back when he knew nothing about the wrestling world.
“Big Cass saved my life a million times,” Amore said. “When you’re green and you don’t even know what the word mark is, you don’t know what the word green means, and you don’t know what the word kayfabe is, and you don’t understand any of the language. You never heard of the dirt sheets. You never watched the indies in your life. If you’re me and you break into WWE, you think that you just do it through Tough Enough. I had no idea how the f—- you become a wrestler.”
Amore described Cass as one of his closest friends. “He’s my best buddy. I mean, we played three fantasy football leagues,” he said. “He was my homie. And I didn’t have any friends when I got signed to WWE. Nobody wanted to talk to me.”
He also explained that he arrived in WWE with a target on his back, which he attributed to his standout microphone skills. “I had heat when I walked through the door. Why? Because I could cut a f—-ing promo better than everyone. Day one,” Amore said.
The former Cruiserweight Champion also revisited the origins of his ring name, revealing it was always his first choice. “I picked it. I wrote down a list of 20 names. Every time they asked me to submit names, I submitted ‘Enzo Amore,'” he recalled. “Within a week of getting there, I got there with like 20, 30 other people. They all got fired. The only people that made it was Charlotte, Baron Corbin and Mojo Rawley. And I was the last guy to get a name.”
The comments come after reports last month that WWE has an interest in reuniting the duo. Amore, who has worked the independent circuit since leaving WWE, is reportedly expected to turn up in NXT, while Cass currently performs in AEW as Big Bill.
