ESPN reporter Andreas Hale will not be covering WrestleMania 42 after WWE denied his media credentials without explanation.
Hale made the announcement on Twitter, writing: “I will not be covering WrestleMania for ESPN. WWE denied my credentials and blocked my access. Neither I nor ESPN has been told why. You can speculate on the reasons, but if you want answers, ask WWE. Let me know what they tell you.”
The news is notable given the context of Hale’s recent history with WWE coverage. He had been writing post-event grades for ESPN following WWE premium live events, but that practice ended after he awarded a C to WWE Wrestlepalooza, the first WWE event to air on ESPN Unlimited. No official explanation connecting the credential denial to that grade has been provided.
All WWE premium live events now air on ESPN Unlimited, with WrestleMania 42 representing the biggest event of the year on that platform. The first hour of tonight’s night one show will air on ESPN2, while the first hour of Sunday’s night two will broadcast on ESPN proper, making this the first WrestleMania to have any portion of the card air on linear ESPN television.
WrestleMania 42 takes place tonight and Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
I will not be covering #WrestleMania for ESPN.
WWE denied my credentials and blocked my access.
Neither I nor ESPN has been told why.
You can speculate on the reasons, but if you want answers, ask WWE.
Let me know what they tell you.
