Ethan Page Confirms MJF-Cody Rhodes Story

The story of MJF meeting Cody Rhodes for the first time is a well-known piece of wrestling lore, and it happened at Ethan Page’s Alpha-1 Wrestling in Ontario. On Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Page gave his version of how it started, which he traces to a comment MJF made about his sister.

Page stressed the account is his own recollection.

“From my perspective, that is a true story,” Page said. “He did come to me and tell me that MJF was talking about my sister, and my family is a very touchy thing for me. My hard fast rule is: you could do whatever you want, say whatever you want, get away with whatever you want. Don’t talk about my family. Don’t mess with my family.”

He said MJF was still early in his career at the time.

“At the time, MJF’s the young, up and coming wrestler. He literally just met Cody that day, so this is kind of the start of him getting going,” Page said. “So I hear this guy is talking about my sister. I confronted him, and we were friends at the time, and I just couldn’t believe it, and he was very defensive. And yeah, he confronted Cody about it.”

Page, the older sibling, said his family helped run his shows, which is part of why the comment bothered him.

“She does the merch at the show,” Page said. “I got these people working their butts off so that they can put on this show for you to come out here and do your shtick, and then you’re over here talking about my sister. She’s not a prop for a joke.”

Page also made a point of noting he never checked the details with his sister, while standing by his telling of it.

“I never really asked my sister if that’s true or not. I guess I should have started there before anything else,” Page said. “But everything that he says, I lived and it happened. And yes, it is a true story.”
