Ethan Page On Lance Storm Comparisons: ‘I Made The WWE Bend The Knee’

When Ethan Page had a custom, Canadian-designed version of the NXT North American Championship made for him, some compared it to Lance Storm’s run in WCW, where the Canadian renamed and restyled titles with maple-leaf stickers. Page does not see it as a fair comparison.

Speaking on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Page pushed back hard when the Storm comparison came up.

“He got stickers. I got a legitimate custom championship in the WWE. The guy slapped on magnets,” Page said. “The brother put some stickers on some championships. I made the WWE bend the knee. That’s a lot different.”

Asked how many titles Storm held, Page brushed it off.

“I stopped counting after three. One sticker too many,” he said.

Page argued that a stack of titles means less than one that carries weight, and he took a shot at another decorated veteran in the process.

“I only need one championship that I would hold for a record amount of time, and a record amount of title defenses, more than anyone that’s ever held the championship,” Page said. “So yes, he might have held many championships, but still have guys like Ultimo Dragon. That guy sucks too.”

He framed his own reign as the standard.

“You can have as many props as you’d like to boost your ego. One championship is enough for me, and it’s what you make the championship,” Page said. “While I was North American champion, it was the most prestigious championship in all of WWE.”

Page said the title mattered because of the work he put behind it.

“It was more important than any championship in the company. I was fighting more than anyone else, having more championship matches than anyone else. I was busting my hump,” he said.
