JBL has defended CM Punk’s decision to knock a fan’s phone away at the WrestleMania 42 hotel, saying he likely would have done the same thing.
Speaking on Something To Wrestle, JBL was asked about the TMZ footage showing Punk slapping a phone from a fan who was filming AJ Lee and Bayley in a hotel lobby.
“I don’t blame him. That’s his wife, and I don’t blame him one at all. He’s taking care of his wife. He’s protecting her, and I think I would have done probably the same thing, right or wrong. I have no idea if it’s right or wrong. I don’t know what the laws are regarding it. I don’t think it was an invasion of privacy, and if somebody asked him not to do it, he should have stopped. And getting the phone slapped out of your hand, that’s not a big deal. So what, you know, hey, you have a story the rest of your life to tell about it. But I don’t think it’s a big deal, and I don’t blame CM Punk for doing that,” JBL said.
JBL also shared that he personally had no issues with fans during WrestleMania 42 weekend, having stayed at the Horseshoe hotel rather than the Park MGM where most WWE talent were located. He added a lighthearted note about his own celebrity status while acknowledging the broader concern.
“I had none. There were a lot of fans. I stayed at the Horseshoe hotel and they were fantastic. The fans were very, very nice. Maybe I’m just not famous enough. Maybe nobody gives a shit about me. I had a lot of people tell me Bradshaw 316 and I appreciate all you guys for telling me that. A fan should know better than filming somebody in the bathroom. I mean, come on, that’s just basic human knowledge. It’s not something that you should have to have security for,” JBL said.
