Jim Ross has shared an encouraging update on his health, telling fans he is set to be discharged from the hospital.
The WWE Hall of Famer and AEW commentator, who posts as @JRsBBQ, took to X with positive news after an extended hospital stay. “Going home this Tuesday!” Ross wrote. “Had a great phone visit with [Steve Austin] today. Biz is picking up!”
The update is a welcome turn following Ross’ previous message from the hospital. Last week, the 74-year-old revealed he was on “Day 22 in the hospital in Norman,” referring to Norman, Oklahoma, where he lives. At the time, he passed along his thanks for the support and vowed to keep battling. “Don’t count me out just yet. I’m still fighting!” he wrote.
Ross did not detail the reason for his hospitalization, and the cause has not been publicly reported, though it followed a fall. He has faced a series of health challenges in recent years, having been treated for skin cancer in 2021 before being declared cancer-free, undergoing hip surgery in 2024, and being diagnosed with colon cancer in May 2025 before announcing later that summer that the cancer was gone. He has also dealt with Bell’s palsy over the course of his career.
In recent months, Ross had given periodic health updates on his Grilling JR podcast, citing travel as his main obstacle to returning to the AEW commentary booth. His most recent on-air appearance came at AEW Double or Nothing, where he called the Continental Championship match between Jon Moxley and Kyle O’Reilly.
Everyone at WrestlingNews.co wishes JR a smooth and speedy recovery.
