Triple H has previewed WWE Night of Champions, describing this Saturday’s event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as a showcase for the company’s rising generation of stars.
Speaking on The Stephen A. Smith Show, the WWE Chief Content Officer called the current period a “unique moment in time” for the company, one he traced back to John Cena’s retirement. “I think it all started around John Cena’s retirement match, and John sort of having this epic retirement arc that ended in December,” Triple H said. “One of John’s core tenets of what he’s always believed in is opportunity, for young talent to grow and prosper.”
According to Triple H, that emphasis on opportunity gave a platform to a wave of NXT call-ups. “You saw that in December in his last match, where we gave opportunity to a lot of young athletes coming up from NXT, Oba Femi, Trick Williams, Sol Ruca, many more, Je’Von Evans,” he said. “Those talent coming up through our system, getting that opportunity in John’s final match, is what you see now, sort of paying off at Night of Champions.”
He pointed to the card as evidence, highlighting the King and Queen of the Ring finals and more. “Oba Femi against Jey Uso for King of the Ring, Liv Morgan against IYO SKY for the Queen of the Ring. Those two matches are epic,” he said. “Trick Williams as the US Champion defending that title, also at Night of Champions. It’s going to be a big night, and it’s going to deliver all the way around with a lot of young talent coming to the forefront.”
Asked which under-the-radar match he is most looking forward to, Triple H singled out a clash of powerhouses. “Between Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker, I’m looking for Bron Breakker to show me what he really can do when it’s just on him, and he’s just in there with Seth Rollins,” he said. “I really feel like this is going to be an epic night for him.” He also predicted the women’s final would impress. “IYO SKY and Liv Morgan, I think, are going to surprise a lot of people with how great they can be.”
