WWE Hall Of Famer Jimmy Hart was interviewed this week on the Battleground podcast.
Hart talked about his career in the wrestling business, including his time in Memphis, working with Hulk Hogan, favorite wrestler theme songs he wrote, and more.
Here are some highlights:
Jimmy Hart talks about WWE Legends House: “They didn’t want it to be scripted. You are all coming in for 13 weeks. Get along, don’t get along, don’t anybody kill each other for God’s sakes, but the main thing is this, have a great time. It’s you guys that used to travel up the roads together but didn’t get to spend a lot of time together. That’s what it was. We had 12 or 14 cameras on us every day…Everybody had your roommates. We had to cook our own food. We had to cook our own breakfast. They only let us out if we did some kind of contest or something. They would put us in two big vans and we would go out and have our contest with different teams. It was such a great concept because it wasn’t scripted. Now when you watch a lot of those shows you see, you can tell the punch lines are coming up before they even start. I think that is what really made it successful. Maybe it was good we didn’t do a second run of it because sometimes second seasons aren’t as good as the first season.”
Hart talked about the music he wrote in wrestling: “The one that has the most airplays on Spotify is the one by Shawn Michaels, “Sexy Boy”. That’s number one. But, some of the favorite ones, I love the Rogueau Brothers because we got to write our stuff and make it kind of silly and funny. One of the versus is ‘We don’t like heavy metal. We don’t like Rock ‘N Roll. All we like to listen to is Barry Manilow’, which made them kind of nerdy instead of saying Led Zeppelin or Van Halen. People would say, oh what nerds. Not that Barry Manilow is a nerd. I love his music. I loved doing Hulk’s ‘American Made’. One of my favorite ones is ‘The American Dream’ by Dusty Rhodes. I got to write that for Dusty Rhodes. Dusty was so great. Dusty goes, ‘You know Jimmy, you’re going to do me a song?’ I said, ‘Yea Dusty.’ He said, ‘I want some black singers in it.’ I said, ‘You got it Dusty.’ He said, ‘I want some horns in it.’ I said, ‘You got it Dusty’.
He said, ‘Can you get a cowbell in the front of it before we start off?’ I said, ‘Dusty, you got it.’ He loved the song. The Wolfpack with Nash and Hall, we loved that one. The Road Warriors. The Hart Foundation. The list goes on and on. We had fun doing all of them and I am just glad I was able to present them to the guys. If they liked them, we used them. If they didn’t, we didn’t. Thank God they liked everything that we did so I was very happy with that.”
