PWInsider has moved to shut down speculation surrounding Kairi Sane’s WWE status following her release last Friday. Per the report, claims suggesting Sane’s release had been rescinded are incorrect, and that there is no possibility of her appearing on tonight’s Raw to finish out her storyline with Asuka and IYO SKY.
Sane has already returned to Japan, making any such appearance impossible regardless of her contractual status. While Sane trended on Twitter for an extended period following news of her release, PWInsider confirmed there has been no change in her situation.
The release itself had already generated significant internal frustration within WWE before the rumors began circulating. According to Fightful Select, there was a ton of shock within the company over the decision given Sane’s role in the ongoing program between Asuka and IYO SKY. Her departure before any meaningful payoff to the feud resulted in heavy frustration among those within WWE.
The release sparked immediate backlash from fans, with the hashtag WeWantKairi circulating on social media for an extended period. WWE backstage interviewer Jackie Redmond also posted a response to the news before quickly deleting the tweet.
Sane was in her second WWE run, having returned to the company in 2023. During that stretch she won two more reigns with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships alongside Asuka as the Kabuki Warriors. She was among 25 wrestlers released by WWE on April 24 in the post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts.
