In recent years, NFL players have been taking part in a silent protest during the playing of the United States’ National Anthem that has essentially divided the country.
The protest was started by former San Francisco 49’ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, to help illustrate what he suggests is a oppression in the country against people of color. Kaepernick started the movement of taking a knee during the anthem, and many NFL players have followed suit.
Many feel that the protest is disrespectful to the flag, anthem, and men and women in the United States’ armed forces. Recently, former WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia announced on Instagram that she’ll be singing the National Anthem before the New York Jets’ Week Two game this weekend against the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium:

In the comments, a fan asked Garcia “Why? It’s clear (the) NFL doesn’t like the anthem or our flag.”
Garcia responded by saying “I can’t control what others do but I can control what I do and that is sing my heart out for a country that has allowed me so many opportunities.”
