London Mayor’s Office Addresses Speculation About The City Hosting WWE WrestleMania In 2028

The office of the Mayor of London has confirmed that no specific negotiations are underway to bring WrestleMania to the city in 2028, putting some perspective on the speculation surrounding London as a potential host since John Cena called for it at Money in the Bank 2023.

Tom Degun of the Economic Desk with the Mayor of London’s Press Office told POST Wrestling by email: “There are general discussions with WWE, but at present no specific discussions around bringing the 2028 WrestleMania to London.” Degun also noted that Mayor Sadiq Khan is determined to bring more major sports events to London, including the biggest WWE events, and continues to discuss future opportunities, but that a specific WrestleMania 2028 bid is not currently on the table.

The clarification is different from Nashville, which appears to be the city furthest along in its actual discussions with WWE for the 44th edition of WrestleMania. The Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp. confirmed to POST Wrestling two weeks ago that the organization is working on a future date with WWE when asked directly about 2028. Requests for additional comment from the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp. and the Nashville mayor’s office on Tuesday were not immediately returned.

WWE President Nick Khan generated significant speculation about the 2028 location when he told staff at a company-wide TKO meeting to wait until they hear the WrestleMania 2028 announcement, with the tease suggesting something beyond a domestic stadium show. Ireland has also entered the conversation through Kilkenny councillor Maurice Shortall’s suggestion to the Irish government that Ireland bid for the event, though that effort remains at an early stage with financial and logistical hurdles identified.

London’s hope for it had appeared promising after Mayor Sadiq Khan met personally with Nick Khan and Paul Levesque in 2024 to openly discuss bringing WrestleMania to the city.  WrestleMania 43 is set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2027, marking the first WrestleMania ever held outside the United States or Canada.
