Matt Hardy has taken aim at the booking of WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan, arguing that her lack of title defenses amounts to “neglect.”
Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy ahead of Night of Champions, the veteran was critical of the fact that Morgan had not regularly defended the championship she won back in April.
“Once someone is crowned champion, I think there has to be regular title defenses in there. That’s kind of the whole point of it,” Hardy said. “If you have someone win a championship and they don’t end up defending the title, it kind of loses stock and equity.” He did not mince words about Morgan’s situation. “If she won the title back in April and hasn’t defended it until now, then that is way too long. That is neglect. She should have defended the title in that town.”
Turning to the Night of Champions card as this episode was recorded before the show, Hardy shared his predictions for the King and Queen of the Ring finals. He was backing Oba Femi to defeat Jey Uso, and that happened.
“You have to keep the Oba Femi train rolling,” Hardy said. “Oba has the opportunity to become a big, big star, and I think his next step is winning this King of the Ring and showing a pretty dominant performance in it.”
In the Queen of the Ring final between Morgan and IYO SKY, Hardy leaned toward the latter and was correct with a SKY win.
“IYO is someone who is very, very good and really has stood out to people. I almost feel like the smart move is to go with IYO and have her win,” he said, noting that a victory could set up SKY choosing to challenge Morgan down the line. “That way you have a story going into the match.”
