Matt Hardy thinks WWE is running the risk of using up Danhausen, and he would pull him back after this weekend.
Asked on the latest episode of The Extreme Life about the Human Monies on a Pole match with Dominik Mysterio at SummerSlam, Hardy gave the match itself a fair hearing before turning to the wider point.
“I think this is going to be a match where Dominik is going to give Danhausen a good match. I think he’ll work really hard for him, and they’ll make the most of it.”
“But I would almost like to see Danhausen kind of be scaled back and take a little time following this.”
The reason is volume.
“He has been a little overexposed, I feel like, and I think you got to be careful, because he is a very valuable commodity to WWE. But you can’t overexpose him. You’ve got to make him a novelty.”
Hardy has been more relaxed about it in the past, something his co-host raised on air. He acknowledged the shift and explained it.
“It is one of those things. They’ve had him over. He’s been like a golden goose, and they’ve been taking every egg they can from him. He was on all these ESPN and crossover major networks doing WWE promotion. But you have to be careful not to overexpose him, because if people get tired and they turn on him, then it’s a big loss for something you have that is a good way of representing the company in a fun, unique way.”
Danhausen debuted for WWE in February and has since been used across the company’s media push, including an ice cream truck tour running through Minneapolis this weekend and a blimp earlier in the year.
On Dominik Mysterio
Hardy does not see the match as a step down for Mysterio, who beat John Cena at Survivor Series.
“I think Dom will still go on to do some main event s***. He’s a character that can do this Danhausen thing, and people will buy into it because Dom is so good. He can go out and have a serious match with John Cena and make it work. He can go out and have a comedy match with somebody and make it work, and that’s why he’s put in this role.”
“He’s really talented. He’s really flexible in what he can do, and I think Dom is still destined to do big things in WWE. I don’t think they’re in any rush to do it because he’s so young.”
