JBL thinks Brock Lesnar belongs in the greatest of all time conversation, and cannot work out why he is not already in it.
Asked on the latest episode of Something to Wrestle about Lesnar’s legacy ahead of SummerSlam, JBL made the case.
“I think he goes down as one of the greatest of all time, and I’m not sure why people aren’t talking about him being in that category right now. Anyway, I don’t hear a lot of it, but I think he is.”
His argument is about the schedule rather than the matches.
“I’ve never seen anybody that can wrestle, especially when all the guys are wrestling 200 nights a year, 250 nights a year, whatever we were doing at the time. Brock was wrestling back then part time, and was still one of the best, not the best on the roster.”
“I’ve never seen anybody who could wrestle as few times as Brock does and have such great matches. He just has an incredible feel. I wrestled Brock a lot when he first started. He has an incredible feel, and it’s just amazing what he’s done.”
On what comes next
The conversation turned to what happens after this weekend. Conrad Thompson floated Lesnar against Gunther at next year’s WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia as a retirement match. JBL liked it immediately.
“I think that’s a great guess. I think that’s where you go with it. Absolutely. You put Gunther over like a million bucks, and all of a sudden you have some type of retirement match, and can he actually retire the beast? I think that’s fantastic.”
Paul “Triple H” Levesque said on ESPN’s First Take this week that whether Lesnar continues is entirely Lesnar’s decision, and that he expects him to answer the question at SummerSlam itself.
Lesnar faces Oba Femi inside Hell in a Cell on Night One in Minneapolis, in the rubber match of a series split at WrestleMania 42 and Clash in Italy.
