Jim Ross does not understand the criticism of SummerSlam’s ticket sales, and he does not think the people making it do either.
Asked about it on the latest Grilling JR, Ross was brief.
“I don’t either. Just something to bitch about. People look for new things to bitch about, Conrad, and I think it’s topical and timely and insightful and all that s***. It’s just, it’s crazy.”
He went on to say the goalposts have moved to the point where he no longer knows how to measure it.
“I hope they do well. And I don’t know what’s well. I don’t know what’s a success anymore, and what isn’t. Is a non-sell out a success? It depends on the number, and how many bodies, how many are every 18 inches.”
He would rather be indoors
Ross was asked whether he prefers arena or stadium shows and did not hesitate.
“As a fan, I prefer the arena shows.”
“I like the indoor shows a little bit better just for the feel, the emotion, the texture of the event. The indoor show suits me a little bit better, and it’s more comfortable for us old timers.”
On the weather risk that comes with running outdoors, he said it is not worth the energy.
“Yeah, you can’t stress over things you can’t control. I said that for years, and I was being guilty of that for most of my professional life, that is worrying about things I have no control over. The weather is prominent in that list.”
On the city
Ross is in Minneapolis this weekend for WrestleCon and said it is a market with history behind it.
“I’ve never done an appearance in Minneapolis before. It’s an old school wrestling hub, and normally when you get to play one of those markets, that was the headquarters of the AWA for many years, and those markets embellish and enhance the experience because a lot of them are second and third generation fans and have been all the way back to the Verne Gagne days in the AWA.”
He was struck by the number of names in town.
“I’ve never seen as many stars converge in one place in a long time. Maybe never.”
