Matt Hardy Says Jeff Hardy Refused To Cut The WrestleMania 25 Finish Short When The Show Ran Long

Matt Hardy says Jeff Hardy refused to cut the finish of their WrestleMania 25 match short when they were told to go straight to the pin because the show was running long.

Hardy told the story on the latest episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, during an interview with new TNA World Champion Leon Slater. He said the show “was a little heavy” on time, and that when Jeff missed his leg drop off the ladder, they were told to have Matt pin him right there.

Jeff refused, Hardy said, and they went ahead with the finish they had planned, a Twist of Fate onto a steel chair. Hardy said it was the first time they had done it.

“We weren’t gonna skip on that. We were getting our moment in,” Hardy said.

When they got to the back, Hardy said, “Jeff said he was going to fight with Vince if he wanted to fight.”

Matt beat Jeff in an Extreme Rules match at WrestleMania 25 on April 5, 2009, at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Jeff came up short leaping from one ladder over a taller one, and Matt locked Jeff’s neck inside a steel chair and hit the Twist of Fate for the pin.

Jeff has talked about the match before. On WWE’s Broken Skull Sessions in 2021, he said time was cut from the match, that he was upset about losing several planned spots, and that he and Vince McMahon talked about his anger afterward.

Slater beat Nic Nemeth for the TNA World Championship at Bound for Glory on October 11 in Tampa.

Matt and Jeff Hardy are set for a signing at Mid Island Collectibles at the Broadway Mall in Hicksville, New York, followed by a Hardy Party at Bull Smith’s Tavern in Smithtown. Tickets are available at hardyboyzlive.com.
