MJF has weighed in on the possibility of Mick Foley making the jump to AEW, telling Jon Alba in a new interview that he is not a fan of the WWE Hall of Famer and views Foley as the original template for Darby Allin’s bump-taking style. Keep in mind that his comments are all in character.
Foley announced at the end of 2025 that he would not be renewing his WWE Legends deal due to the company’s ongoing ties to the Donald Trump administration. Earlier this month, The Takedown on SI reported that AEW has expressed real interest in working with Foley once his Legends deal expires in June, though it was not specified whether the conversation is about a one-off appearance or a longer-term arrangement.
Speaking to Jon Alba, MJF gave his read on Foley joining AEW.
“I think Mick Foley is fat and he’s ugly, and I think he was the blueprint of what Darby Allin is now, which makes me hate him even more. That’s what I think of Mick Foley.”
The Darby Allin reference comes about amid MJF and Allin’s current main event Title vs Hair match at AEW Double or Nothing on Sunday at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Flushing, NY. MJF is challenging for the AEW World Championship and his hair is on the line.
Foley and MJF have previously discussed a wrestling program building to Foley’s last match. MJF revealed on the Insight podcast and various other interviews that the two had laid out a six-week feud concept that would have ended with Foley’s retirement match. Foley turned the program down due to concerns about his hip and knee replacements and the physical risks of running a six-week program at his age. Foley last wrestled in 2012.
The Foley-AEW interest has been building quietly for months. Tony Khan has stated in the past that he’s a Foley fan. AEW Double or Nothing taking place in Flushing, NY, an hour from where Foley grew up on Long Island.
