AEW World Champion MJF made the case that his promotion has the deepest and most varied roster in wrestling, and used the platform to take a thinly veiled shot at the competition, on the Shut Up And Wrestle podcast.
MJF did not hold back in praising AEW’s depth. “I do genuinely think Bell to Bell All Elite Wrestling has the best roster, and it also has the most flavors of ice cream,” he said. “I’m proud to be a part of the promotion that I’m in currently.”
By contrast, he said other products leave him cold. “I’ll watch other products, and everything just feels homogenized and same, same, and copy paste, and it’s boring,” MJF said. He compared AEW favorably to the regional promotions he grew up studying. “When I watch my promotion, it reminds me a lot of the territories, in the sense that every match on the card was drastically different, with drastically different characters. That’s why I love territory wrestling, that’s why I love Mid-South.”
MJF acknowledged that not everyone shares his enthusiasm, name-checking one prominent critic. “I know a guy like Cornette is not a fan of watching my promotion,” he said.
The champion closed with a statement of purpose about his own career, arguing that wrestlers have been conditioned to believe stardom is only possible through one company. “People have been brainwashed into believing you can only become a top act in professional wrestling because it was monopolized for such a long period of time,” MJF said. “Think about all the names we talked about today, who really made their money outside of that monopoly. I want to be that guy in the modern era who did that, and, with love and respect to everyone who’s unaware of it, I’ve already done it, and I’m continuing to do it.”
