Original plan for Jinder Mahal’s WWE return revealed

Can you imagine a WWE without “The Modern Day Maharaja?” It looks like it almost happened.

Prior to returning to winning his first WWE Championship last year when he dethroned Randy Orton, it looks like WWE had much different plans for the returning Jinder Mahal. Mahal was initially released from his WWE contract back in 2014 after a run with Three Man Band (3MB). After a few years on the indies Mahal returned and signed a new WWE deal in 2016. Eventually he found himself in the World Title picture on SmackDown Live. At the 2017 Backlash pay-per-view (PPV), Mahal, with some help of The Singh Brothers, defeated “The Viper” to win the WWE Title.

According to a report from Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, Mahal was nearly “The Mahal Monitor.” Someone pitched the character as a self-appointed backstage monitor of the WWE halls. Of course, that never came to fruition and we now have “The Modern Day Maharaja” along with The Singh Brothers:
