REPORT: WWE believed to make strong play for top star who could be leaving NJPW

Jay White got fans talking earlier this week while doing a backstage promo following his loss to IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion Kota Ibushi at Wrestle Kingdom 15 Night Two.

During the promo, he noted that he was finished with NJPW after New Year Dash. At this show, he took a pinfall in a multi-man match before being ushered to the backstage arena.

Super J-Cast reports they’ve heard from sources that White could depart from New Japan Pro Wrestling at the end of the month and is expected to receive an offer from WWE. Here’s the report:

“Several sources have indicated there is some doubt whether Jay White will extend his NJPW contract, rumoured to be up at the end of the month. WWE are believed to be making a strong play for him and it’s 50/50 whether he stays or goes.”

It should be noted that Super J-Cast has correctly broken news stories in the past such as Best of Super Juniors and World Tag League tournaments taking place after last year’s G1 Climax.

It’s been reported as of late that WWE is not offering the big-money deals right now to wrestlers both currently under contract and free agents due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, they could make an exception for White just like they did for Matt Riddle recently.
