Rey Mysterio has announced a tournament featuring luchadores from Raw, SmackDown and AAA, with the winner earning a shot at Roman Reigns and the World Heavyweight Championship on Raw in Mexico City.
Mysterio made the announcement in his capacity as AAA General Manager, which is what allows wrestlers from all three brands to be in the same bracket. The tournament begins on next Monday’s Raw, and the title match takes place at Arena CDMX on September 14.
It follows a short exchange on this week’s Raw from Des Moines. Reigns appeared on stage to endorse Jacob Fatu continuing an attack on Royce Keys after their street fight, then met Mysterio at the Gorilla position. Mysterio pointed out that he runs AAA and said he had some ideas to run past him, and the two walked off together without WWE revealing what was discussed.
Reigns has held the World Heavyweight Championship since beating CM Punk on night two of WrestleMania 42 in April. He retained it against Seth Rollins in the main event of SummerSlam night two on Sunday.
The September 14 show is part of a substantial run in Mexico and the first WWE television from the country in fifteen years, the last being Raw from Mexico City in October 2011. WWE runs live events in Guadalajara on September 9 and Monterrey on September 10, SmackDown from Arena CDMX on September 11, and Raw from the same building on September 14. AAA’s TriplemanÃa 34 sits between them, with night one in Las Vegas on September 11 and night two at Arena CDMX on September 13.
Stephanie Vaquer, Penta, Seth Rollins, Dominik Mysterio, El Grande Americano, Oba Femi, GUNTHER and The Usos are among those already advertised for the Mexico City Raw.
WWE acquired AAA in August 2025. Mysterio was installed as General Manager and has spent the months since adding names to the roster, including Damian Priest. His son Dominik is the reigning AAA Mega Champion.
No participants in the tournament have been announced.
