Samoa Joe explains why he left TNA, says it was toxic

Samoa Joe is challenging Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship at Great Balls Of Fire and while that name might still be hilarious this match-up is no laughing matter. Joe recently spoke to Edge and Christian on their Pod Of Awesomeness where he discussed much of his career that brought him to WWE.

Joe and Christian know each other from their days in TNA and Capt Charisma wanted to make it clear that Joe was his get as a guest. Joe was very candid about why he left TNA and said he wasn’t happy in the slightest. Apparently, the toxicity of TNA was contagious as Joe said the negativity started affecting the people around him. This is when he decided it was time to leave.

“I think toward the end, obviously toward the end of my last contract in TNA — and honestly like,  for the nine years I was there we did really great business,” Samoa Joe said about the money he was able to make while working in Dixie Carter Land. “They did good by me and we were straight and I have no qualms about the business I did in TNA and I can’t thank them enough.”

“Hell, they helped pay for my house and that chair that [Christian] is sitting in” Joe continues as Christian remarked it’s a nice chair. “This beautiful angora carpet that he’s running his toes through, thank you TNA […] But yeah, toward the end [of my contract with TNA], you know creatively I was in a rut and I didn’t see any new opportunities that were opening up for me to do something. Even when I came home my family was just like, ‘you don’t really seem like you’re into it when you go to work as you used to be.’ And the truth was I really wasn’t.”

“It was becoming toxic in the sense that I wasn’t happy and before I would let that kinda spread and spread in company and hurt them. I felt it was best just to kinda cut ties and try something new and roll the dice and see what would happen and I left.”
