The Undertaker: ‘I Want’ AAA ‘To Put Out A Product That Is Completely Different From NXT’

The Undertaker has put a title on his AAA job for the first time, describing himself as the promotion’s head of creative.

Undertaker has been part of AAA’s creative leadership since WWE took the company over in 2025, working alongside Jeremy Borash under Paul Levesque’s overall direction. Asked on Insight with Chris Van Vliet what his role actually is, he spent a while avoiding the question before answering it.

“I thought I dodged that question. I went all the way around it. That’s why you’re the best. Because I thought I went all the way around it, and you would forget that.”

“It’s great when it’s the El Grande Americano storyline. But as soon as you throw one storyline out there that sucks, it is like, oh my God, he’s horrible. Fire him! No, wait. I guess I’m the head of creative. There you go.”

The Americano story is the one AAA is best known for outside Mexico, and it finished with a mask versus mask match between Chad Gable and Ludwig Kaiser at Noche de los Grandes on May 30 in Monterrey. Gable lost and unmasked. WWE replayed the match on Raw and it has since passed two million views.

Undertaker said the idea started with him and Borash but credited the two wrestlers with what it became.

“You, myself, and Jeremy Borash kind of had this idea, but you know, El Grande and Chad Gable, man, they took the thought and the idea, and they really took it to a whole different level. There were some highly motivating speeches that I gave both of them before they would go out.”

Asked what those sounded like, he noted there were children within earshot and gave the polite version.

“I don’t know how. Well, there’s a bunch of kids here. No, I just, you know, I would reiterate to them how important what they’re about to go out and do is not only for AAA but for their own personal careers, and trying to motivate them to do things differently and be more edgy, more aggressive, more violent, right? And it took a while for that to kind of set in and for them to see my vision.”

That vision, he said, is about separating AAA from everything else under the same corporate roof.

“My vision is: I want us to put out a product that is completely different from NXT. It’s completely different from SmackDown, Raw. I want it to be different from every other wrestling. So, and that starts with storytelling, athleticism, and aggression, and it’s a process, and everybody’s starting to buy into it and realizing that what we’re doing down there has got the attention of the wrestling community.”

“We’re just making the old stuff new again, and prove that it still works.”

Gable, who won the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam on Sunday in his hometown of Minneapolis, has described the Americano run as the thing that got him there, and credited Kaiser with taking the character further than anyone else would have.
