Vince McMahon’s Lawyer Says Federal Criminal Probe Against McMahon Has Been Dropped

Vince McMahon’s lawyer, Robert W. Allen, noted in a statement that federal prosecutors in Manhattan have dropped a criminal probe against McMahon regarding whether McMahon tried to cover up multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.

“This is simply the result of an appeal of a procedural matter that was argued five months ago,” Allen told The New York Post. “We have been in consistent communication with the government since that time and understand, with no ambiguity, that the investigation has definitively concluded and will not result in charges.”

These comments follow a recent federal appeals court ruling that a former attorney for Vince McMahon improperly withheld documents from a federal grand jury investigating McMahon’s handling of multi-million dollar settlements with two female employees who accused him of sexual abuse.

McMahon settled a related SEC case on January 10th, agreeing to pay a $400,000 civil penalty and reimburse WWE $1.33 million for violating the Securities Exchange Act. Despite McMahon’s statement that the matter is closed, a separate grand jury investigation remains ongoing.

Janel Grant amended her January lawsuit against McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE, alleging sexual assault and sexual trafficking by McMahon while she was a WWE employee, with Laurinaitis’s involvement and WWE’s knowledge. The amended lawsuit is available here.
