This week’s episode of Monday Night Raw closed out with a big main event. Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe battled for the opportunity to become the number 1 contender for Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship at SummerSlam.
Here is a brief recap of what happened at the end of Raw…
You can say what you want about Roman Reigns, but he’s become a good worker and he hung in there with Joe for over 20 minutes. Late in the match, there was a “this is awesome” chant from the fans in Nashville. Business picked up towards the end of the match when Braun Strowman walked towards the ring with an eye on Reigns. Reigns was able to fight him off but he was exhausted and Strowman was able to get the upper hand by launching him from the ringside area into the ring. Strowman took out Joe at ringside and then went in the ring to attack Reigns. For a brief time, Joe and Reigns teamed up to fend of Strowman and that included a Superman punch from Reigns while Joe had the Coquina Clutch but Strowman was too much for them and then power slammed both of them as security ran down to ringside. Joe and Reigns were laid out in the ring as Raw ended and they never finished the match.
Last week, the plan was for Reigns to challenge Lesnar for the Universal Championship but it looks like Vince McMahon may have changed his mind. My guess is that it will end up being a Fatal 4-way between Strowman, Joe, Reigns, and Lesnar at SummerSlam. On the WWE Network, Kurt Angle said that he does not know who will face Lesnar at SummerSlam but he will have an answer next week on Raw.
WWE is hoping that this week’s Raw will be among the highest rated shows of the year. It’s certainly possible since they loaded it up with a big main event and Kurt Angle’s big reveal (click here to read about the big reveal).
