It looks like in a day and age where information can travel this fast WWE realized they can’t totally rewrite history.
When The Fabulous Moolah was given the namesake of the female battle royal match at WrestleMania 34 a lot of people had plenty to say. A petition was started which quickly gained 10,000 signatures and WWE obviously realized this fact as well. WWE even had to disable comments for their video announcing the match.
WWE confirmed via a statement to The Wrap that they are changing the name of The Fabulous Moolah Battle Royal in the wake of this controversy.
In a statement, WWE said: “After further consideration, we believe it’s best to proceed with the name ‘WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal.’ What remains most important is that this historic match is part of WWE’s unwavering commitment to the Women’s Division.”
It looks like we can count this one in the “win” column if you were one of the many people who had a problem with this name.
