Samoa Joe challenged Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship at the Great Balls Of Fire pay-per-view. The match got started at about 10:55 pm eastern but they can do that since they can basically do what they want on their own network.
Here is a rundown of what happened in the match…
As Paul Heyman was giving his introduction, Samoa Joe attacked Lesnar and the attack continued at ringside. Joe slammed Lesnar through the ringside announcer’s table and this all happened before the bell rang so the match was not officially started. The referee allowed Lesnar to get back in the ring so that the match could get started but Joe resumed his attack as soon as the bell rang. Lesnar tried to fight back with knees to the stomach but Joe hit a barrage of knees and punches in the corner. Lesnar was finally able to get some offense in but it was brief because Joe locked in the Coquina Clutch. Lensar was able to break it by driving Joe into the turnbuckle. That was followed up by a German suplex from Lesnar. Joe hit a low blow after the second suplex and then hit a Uranage slam. Joe followed that up with the Coquina Clutch but Lesnar powered out of it and hit a sidewalk slam. Lesnar finally got back on offense and hit some more German suplexes. Lesnar want for the F5 but Joe slipped out of it and locked in the Coquina Clutch again. Lesnar’s face turned purple and looked out of it but somehow he broke free and then hit the F5 and then got the pin. Lesnar retains.
