Road Dogg may be on his way to TNA, and his arrival could come as soon as this weekend.
According to PWInsider, Brian “Road Dogg” James is expected to be at TNA Slammiversary this Sunday. While the company is reportedly trying to keep it quiet, there has been talk of James coming aboard.
Per the report, James was initially pitched as a potential producer. However, following the recent departure of Tommy Dreamer, some believe he could instead step into TNA’s creative circle. Dreamer, who had served as TNA’s head of creative, mutually parted ways with the company on June 17.
The report also pointed to a connection that could benefit TNA’s working relationship with WWE. One source noted that James has a close relationship with Johnny Russo, the head writer for NXT. The two previously worked together on NXT’s creative team, and James joining TNA would, in that source’s view, only be a positive for the ongoing NXT-TNA relationship.
James is a WWE Hall of Famer who stepped away from his role as a co-lead writer on SmackDown earlier this year and is believed to be operating under a WWE Legends deal. He also has a history with TNA as an in-ring performer, having competed for the promotion as B.G. James from 2002 to 2009.
TNA Slammiversary takes place Sunday, June 28 at the Agganis Arena in Boston.
