It looks like WWE is ramping up their efforts to expand into other territories.
Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Triple H met with officials with Dragon Gate during WWE’s recent tour of Japan.
Meltzer also noted that WWE officials met with Stardom officials so that should tell you that Japan is more a target for expansion than before.
Australia is also a major target right now as they have been looking to recruit all of their top wrestlers.
It’s no secret that WWE has long-term plans to launch NXT brands and Performance Center facilities in other countries. Australia and Japan seem logical because they are hotbeds for pro wrestling. There has also been some chatter about WWE possibly launching an NXT brand in Canada.
WWE recently held tryouts in Shanghai, China, which another country that WWE is looking to get a stronger foothold in.
A great few days in #WWEShanghai for the latest international @WWE tryout. An all-around team effort led by our @WWEPC staff, coaches and two original Chinese standouts and @WWENXT Superstars Big Boa and @XiaWWE. #FullCircle pic.twitter.com/qMlXdqmOpt
