As previously noted, Alexa Bliss was not at Monday Night Raw this week because of an illness. Bliss is currently scheduled to be at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view on Sunday in Philadelphia, PA.
“Alexa Bliss has a real bad sinus infection,” Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio. “Originally, they were not going to do the handicap match. The handicap match was a late change and everything that happened on TV on Monday and Tuesday with no Alexa Bliss was because of her sinus infection and they rewrote that whole storyline.”
Meltzer said that the original plan for Sunday’s SmackDown Women’s Championship match was a singles match but they made it a handicap match by adding Nikki Cross as a way to protect Bliss on Sunday.
So, if things did not make sense this week when Nikki Cross won the Beat The Clock challenge on Raw, it’s because they were scrambling to figure out a way to get her in the match for Sunday.
I should note that there was a subtle hint at Bayley possibly getting some help soon to combat the odds so perhaps an old friend will be returning soon. Click here for some spoiler news on someone who is advertised to return to WWE TV soon.
